As the NBL Free Agency Period begins, there were multiple Bullets players and coaches in action in the opening round of NBL1 North at the weekend.

On the back of his first NBL season at the Bullets, Isaac White starred for the Mackay Meteors, delivering 30 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals in his team’s 98-89 victory over Townsville. White was the leading scorer in the NBL1 nationally last year and if the first round is anything to go by, will be right up there in 2024.

Also on Friday night, Bullets assistant coaches Darryl McDonald and Greg Vanderjagt started their time in charge of the Northside Wizards and Brisbane Capitals respectively, facing off in their opening game of the season.

Bullets forward Sam McDaniel was outstanding for the Capitals on both ends of the floor with 27 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Despite McDaniel’s efforts it was DMac’s Wizards who came out on top with a 95-87 win.

Following a couple of games with the NZ national team, Tyrell Harrison joined the Southern District Spartans alongside Bullets teammate Mitch Norton for a double-header.

In the Spartans Saturday night clash with DMac’s Wizards Tyrell Harrison put up 21 points, five rebounds and four blocks, while Mitch Norton contributed 12 points and seven rebounds in limited minutes. It was McDonalds side who get their second win of the weekend as Northside narrowly defeated Southern Districts 81-78.

Harrison and the Spartans were able to quickly make amends, getting on the board in 2024 with the 85-78 road victory on Sunday against the Sunshine Coat Phoenix.

Tyrell starred in the game with 28 points, 10 rebounds and two assists shooting an efficient 12/14 from the floor.

Next weekend in in Round Two, White’s Mackay Meteors take on Vanderjagt and McDaniel’s Brisbane Capitals on Friday 19 April in Mackay.

Brisbane Capitals will continue on to Rockhampton to face the Cyclones on Saturday 20 April.

Also on Saturday night, Harrison and Norton’s Southern District Spartans take on the Ipswich Force and McDonald’s Northside Wizards travel to the Sunshine Coast matching up with the Phoenix. Full schedule HERE.
