It was a dramatic finish in the Far North, as Anthony Drmic hit a walk off three pointer to give the Brisbane Bullets a remarkable 101-100 overtime victory against the New Zealand Breakers.

The Bullets and Breakers opened Round 17, battling it out in an empty Cairns Convention Centre Thursday night, but they had no trouble creating their own atmosphere and bringing the energy.

It was the Breakers who fired first, getting out to an early lead. The Bullets had far too many defensive lapses in the first allowing the Breakers to pile on 29 first quarter points.

Luckily, the Bullets were able to put 22 points on the board to keep the game within reach, including Robert Franks with 10 points on 4/5 shooting.

The Breakers opened the second quarter with much of the same, suddenly leading the visiting Bullets 41-26 and shooting 64 per cent from the floor.

Brisbane continued to execute well offensively, shooting at 53 per cent but would need to lock down on defence in the second half to overcome the 57-46 half time deficit.

The Bullets were able to build some positive momentum in the third quarter, going on a run of nine consecutive points to make it a one possession game.

However, late triples before three quarter-time to Ousmane Dieng and Tom Abercrombie gave New Zealand a seven-point edge at the final break.

Brisbane started the fourth quarter with a 12-2 run and after trailing the hosts, took the lead for the first time with 6:36 left in the game.

New Zealand responded with the next seven points, but it was back-to-back long-range bombs for Brisbane to Franks and Deng Deng that had them back up 88-86 with 1:45 remaining.

Wetzell hit two free-throws to tie scores level and that's how they stayed at the end of regulation time.

Patterson scored first in overtime on a beautiful pass from Cadee, however Abercrombie nailed two more threes for New Zealand and then when he banked one in with a minute left it appeared to seal the deal for the Breakers with the hosts leading 99-92.

The Bullets had other ideas. Franks knocked down his third triple of the night with 14 seconds remaining, Tanner Krebs hit another with 8 seconds on the clock but the Bullets still trailed by two.

Deng intercepted a poor full court pass attempt, kicked it up the floor to Drmic who nailed the triple as time expired for the incredible one-point win.

Robert Franks had an NBL career high, starring for the Bullets with 31 points and 11 rebounds, including shooting an ultra-efficient 70% from the floor.

Jason Cadee played an integral role in the game, finishing with his first career double-double, scoring 11 points and adding 11 assists.

Lamar Patterson had 17 points and seven assists and Deng Deng had a season high 16 points and five rebounds.

Drmic was the fifth Bullets player in double figures, adding 15 points including the heroic game winner and had some clutch defensive plays down the stretch.

Yanni Wetzell was tough for the Breakers, finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Tom Abercrombie added 21 points.
