"We're in a spot that we want to be in, fighting to continue to play at this time of year"

Nathan Sobey had a career-best scoring night in Friday's win finishing with 37 points. But the most satisfying aspect was his team getting the win at a jam packed Nissan Arena against the Adelaide 36ers in the last home game of the regular season.

Brisbane beat the Sixers 102-84 in a result that keeps them right in the race for a top six position with one game to go, this Friday night, on the road to the New Zealand Breakers.

The last time the Bullets took part in NBL Finals action was in 2018/19, before Sobey came to Brisbane. So now that he is 261 games into his career and in his fifth season at the club, everything is about so much more than any individual accolades.

All Sobey's 37 points came in the first three quarters, however Brisbane continued to pile on the points and outscored Adelaide 26 points to 17 in the fourth quarter and he couldn’t have been happier to have so many teammates step up.

"We sort of adjusted to the way they were defending down the stretch and I think we did a great job of trying to pick it apart," Sobey said.

"We missed some easy ones as well that could have gone our way, but the boys did a great job of just being able to make those reads throughout the course of the game."

"I'm just stoked we got the win. I think we came out with the right intent, we had a good week on the track and talked about all the things we needed to take care of, and after a disappointing weekend we did a great job of being able to go out and execute in the game," he said.

"There's still a lot of areas that we can continue to get better at like second chance points and transition, but for the most part I think we did a great job of understanding our scout and what we wanted to do."

Not only was Friday night's win important for the Bullets to keep their season alive with one game to go, it was also a performance for the home fans to savour who have continued to provide such great support.

The atmosphere inside Nissan Arena all season long has been tremendous and that's given Sobey and all his teammates a huge boost, and he was happy the team were able to reward them.

"The atmosphere was great, we continue to get more and more people through the door as much as that's possible," Sobey said.

"That's a credit to our support staff, Mal and everyone doing a great job at the club with that aspect, but all in all it was a good win. At the same time, we can't ride on it too much and we've got a big game to come that's even more important now. We'll turn our focus completely to that."

The season for the Bullets was precariously placed after the Round 18 loss in Wollongong to the Illawarra Hawks, but now with the win over the Sixers the destiny is back in their own hands.

While nobody is saying it will be easy, if the Bullets win in Auckland on Friday against the Breakers then they will be guaranteed of a finish somewhere inside the top six at the end of the regular season.

The whole group sat down to talk about getting rid of the nerves and embracing the opportunity ahead of them following that loss to the Hawks.

"We sat down after that game in Illawarra and kind of hashed out any of that nervey sort of feeling and put it to bed as a group," Sobey said.

"We just knew the task that we had and Justin preached that it was all opportunity. We're in a spot that we want to be in fighting to continue to play at this time of year and that's what it's all about that opportunity to go and control our own destiny.

"That was a big point for us during the week and I think we came out on the court and really executed with the game plan, and stuck to it."
