The Brisbane Bullets are pleased to announce the appointment of Hajj Turner as the club’s Director of Player Personnel and Recruitment, further strengthening a high-calibre leadership team alongside recently appointed Head Coach Stu Lash and High-Performance Director Professor Stephen Bird.
Turner will work closely with Head Coach Stu Lash on player recruitment, roster construction and basketball strategy, while also collaborating across the coaching staff and front office.
In his role, Hajj will have access to the insight and support of the Brisbane Bullets ownership group - an impressive collective that includes current and former NBA players, executives, coaches, and owners, including Bullets Owner and Chairman, Jason Levien.
With more than two decades of experience at various levels of the game, Turner brings a wealth of basketball knowledge, global relationships, and a strong reputation for identifying and developing elite talent. He consulted with the Bullets during the 2024-25 season and now formally joins the club in a leadership capacity.
“We are thrilled to welcome Hajj to a more formal role with the Bullets. His basketball pedigree and relationships in and around the game will bolster our organisation. This is another important step in building a high-performance environment that attracts and retains elite talent,” said Bullets CEO Malcolm Watts.
Head Coach Stu Lash echoed the sentiment, highlighting the significance of Turner’s appointment and the impact it will have on shaping the team’s direction moving forward.
“I’ve known and respected Hajj for a long time. His eye for talent, his ability to build relationships, and his deep understanding of the game will be an incredible asset as we shape the future of this team. He brings experience, passion and professionalism that aligns with the culture we’re building here in Brisbane,” Lash said.
Turner’s background includes leadership and coaching roles at top NCAA Division I programs, including the University of Vermont and George Washington University, where he served as Associate Head Coach. His teams won more than 60 percent of their games during his collegiate coaching career—a testament to his basketball acumen and leadership.
A former player at the University of Louisville under legendary coaches Denny Crum and Rick Pitino, Turner also brings administrative experience from his time at the University of Maryland.
His blend of coaching, recruiting, and operational expertise positions him as a key figure in the Bullets' next chapter.
Reflecting on his appointment, Turner said he sees a lot of opportunity at the Brisbane Bullets.
“The time I have spent with the Bullets organisation this past season inspired me. I recognise what an incredible organisation I am joining, one that is full of potential. I am looking forward to supporting Stu and Mal and working alongside talented and dedicated colleagues - including assistant coaches Greg Vanderjagt and Darryl McDonald, whose passion and experience are second to none - as we strive to contribute to the team’s success in the coming seasons,” Turner said.
With Hajj leading player recruitment, Bullets fans can feel confident that the club is committed to bringing elite talent to Brisbane—players who will excite crowds, elevate our standard of play, and contribute to a winning culture.
