The Brisbane Bullets are proud to announce the launch of the Brisbane Bullets Athlete Academy, the premier development pathway for aspiring athletes aged Under 14 to 19. This new initiative has been designed to give young players the tools, guidance and opportunities to unlock their full potential and chase their basketball dreams.
At the core of the Academy is a philosophy that athletes should train like professionals from day one. Led by Brisbane Bullets NBL coaching staff, Academy athletes will learn and compete within the same systems that have produced elite NBL and NBA talent.
Every session is designed to be high energy, competitive and development focused. Players will be challenged to master Brisbane Bullets offensive and defensive concepts, build their strength and conditioning, sharpen individual offence and defence, and elevate their decision making under pressure. The result is an environment that prepares athletes for the highest levels of the game while instilling the values of teamwork, discipline and resilience.
The Academy is structured around three levels, giving athletes a clear and consistent pathway to success. Each stage has been carefully designed to meet players where they are in their journey and provide the right level of challenge and support.
The Development Program is the entry point for boys and girls aged 11 to 14. This program provides the foundation for athletes to grow their skills, deepen their understanding of the game and prepare for progression into more advanced training. Athletes are grouped by age into Under 13 and Under 15 squads and focus on building essential fundamentals the Bullets way — playing selfless basketball, working hard and paying attention to detail. Training is delivered in structured terms, blending individual skill development with team-style play concepts. By the end of the program, athletes will have a strong technical base that positions them perfectly for the next stage of their basketball journey.
The Academy Program is for athletes who have been identified through Bullets Prospect Camps, progressed from the Development Program or applied through an expression of interest. This stage is designed for players who are ready to take their game to the next level. Athletes train twice a week under the systems and standards of the Brisbane Bullets’ professional NBL program. Only 20 players per age group are selected, ensuring an elite environment where athletes receive maximum attention and support.
The program provides a balance of on-court development and strength and conditioning. Monday sessions focus on the Under 19 group, Tuesday sessions on the Under 14 group, and Wednesday sessions on the Under 16 group. Each group trains for two hours, with 45 minutes dedicated to strength and conditioning and 75 minutes on the court. On Thursdays, all groups take part in shooting sessions using Dr Dish technology combined with targeted strength training. This professional structure allows athletes to not only learn the Bullets systems and terminology but to understand why and how they work. The Academy Program is a direct pathway to opportunities as an NBL Development Player and also supports athletes in their ambitions to secure places in the US collegiate system.
The Future Bullets Program represents the pinnacle of the Academy pathway. This level has been designed for athletes who are on the verge of professional or collegiate basketball and need the final polish to prepare them for the demands of the next stage. Here, players refine their skills with elite guidance and receive the preparation needed to thrive in high performance environments.
The first step into the Brisbane Bullets Academy pathway is the Prospect Camp. These camps are designed to give the Bullets coaching staff the opportunity to assess young athletes and determine which program best suits their current level of ability. Athletes are introduced to Bullets offensive and defensive concepts, while coaches look for qualities such as coachability, focus and a willingness to learn. Prospect Camps ensure that every athlete is placed in the right environment to develop their skills, elevate their game and work towards achieving their full potential.
The Bullets Academy is more than just a training program. It is about teaching the game the Bullets way, emphasising discipline, teamwork and preparation at every stage. Athletes will benefit from the guidance of professional coaches, exposure to world class facilities and a pathway that connects grassroots basketball directly to the professional stage.
For athletes who are serious about chasing their basketball dreams, the journey starts here.
