The Brisbane Bullets are pleased to announce the club’s Hostplus coaching staff for the 2021/22 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season, with Head Coach James Duncan to be joined by returning Assistant Coaches CJ Bruton and Greg Vanderjagt.
Bruton has been on Brisbane’s coaching staff since they re-entered the NBL in 2016. A club legend, Bruton played in the last Bullets championship win in 2007, adding another title to a playing resume that also included two titles with the Sydney Kings and three with the New Zealand Breakers.
Vanderjagt is entering his second season on the Bullets coaching staff. The former Townsville Crocodiles and Gold Coast Blaze player also served as the club’s Head of Community and Development, driving Brisbane’s participation and development initiatives and helping to integrate the club into the community.
Duncan was named Bullets head coach last month after spending the last two seasons as Assistant Coach with the Sydney Kings.
Duncan said: “I’m thrilled to have CJ and Greg back on board with us at the Bullets.
“CJ and Greg have played a vital role in the club’s fantastic player development over recent years. Their guidance has helped Nathan Sobey become an MVP candidate and Tyrell Harrison take huge strides on both ends of the floor. This type of impact is huge for the Bullets and the direction we want to be moving in.
“CJ’s experience and knowledge of the game will continue to help guide and give comfort to our playing group. The respect he has around the league is impactful. Personally, I’m enthusiastic about picking his brain and working together.
“Greg’s commitment and passion for the game, along with his connection to the Brisbane community, is a winning combination that we need for the Bullets. I look forward to seeing his growth and continued great work from last season.”
Bruton said: “I’m so excited to continue my journey with the Bullets since the club’s rebirth. The club holds a special place in my heart and I can’t wait for the new season to begin.
“I’m grateful to be able to learn from JD (James Duncan) and work with Greg to help our players become the best team we can.”
Vanderjagt said: “I’m really pleased to be staying with the Bullets for NBL22 and to begin this next chapter of the club under the leadership of James.
“As a young coach I’m looking forward to the opportunity to learn from James, CJ and our players to continue my growth as a coach in the NBL and contribute to the goals of our organisation this season and beyond.
“We are building a young and talented roster this season with a few new faces. I’m looking forward to the challenges of getting these new pieces into Brisbane, getting to work with them and helping each and every one of our players develop throughout NBL22 to put us as a team in the best position possible to be successful.”
The Bullets have signed Isaiah Moss, Deng Deng, Jack Salt, Jason Cadee, Anthony Drmic, Tyrell Harrison, Tanner Krebs, Nathan Sobey and Tamuri Wigness for the 2021/22 Hungry Jack’s NBL season.
