Bullets' Guide to WA

As HoopsFest kicks off in Perth from 15-18 Jan, there is no better excuse to turn the basketball into a full WA getaway.

From sun soaked coastlines to relaxed beach towns, Western Australia delivers the kind of holiday that feels both adventurous and effortless. Whether you are chasing ocean views, standout food, or a slower pace with plenty to explore, WA offers something for every traveller.

We asked a few of our players who know the west well to share their must do tips. Here's their picks:

Jack’s pick: Fremantle Markets

If you want a true taste of WA culture, Jack says Fremantle is the place to start.

Fremantle Markets are vibrant and full of character. From fresh local produce to handmade goods and some of the best casual eats in the state, it is an easy place to spend a relaxed morning or afternoon. Grab a coffee, wander the stalls, and take in the coastal energy Fremantle is known for.

Jack’s tip: Come hungry and give yourself time. The best finds are often unplanned.

Ducas’ pick: Geraldton

For something a little different, Ducas recommends heading north to Geraldton.

This coastal town is all about open space, quiet beaches, and slowing things right down. It is ideal for fishing, coastal walks, and uninterrupted ocean sunsets. Geraldton offers a more low key side of WA that feels refreshingly untouched.

Ducas’ tip: Perfect if you want to get some waves.

Mitch’s picks: Little Bay, Clancy’s Fish Bar, Nobu and Margaret River

Mitch is in-the-know for the best eats.

He starts with breakfast at Little Bay Bar & Eatery, easing into the day with good coffee, quality breakfast options, and a relaxed coastal feel. Lunch is at Clancy’s Fish Bar, where classic WA seafood and a laid back atmosphere make it an easy favourite. Dinner is saved for Nobu, delivering a premium end to the day with world-class flavours and a refined setting. When time allows, Margaret River rounds out the experience with its wineries, surf beaches, and iconic WA landscapes.

Mitch’s tip: Start slow, eat well, and finish the day somewhere special.

Casey’s pick: Scarborough Beach

For iconic WA beach vibes, Casey says Scarborough Beach is a must.

With clear water, a lively beachfront, and plenty of space to relax, Scarborough is ideal whether you want a swim, a walk along the promenade, or simply to take in one of Perth’s famous sunsets.

Casey’s tip: Plan to stay until the sun goes down. It is one of the best views in the state.

The WA way

From lively markets to quiet coastal towns, standout dining to untouched beaches, WA rewards those who take their time. According to the players, once you have experienced it, you will already be thinking about your next trip back. Check out everything to do here.
