The Brisbane Bullets are excited to announce a highly anticipated NBL25 pre-season game against the Shanghai Sharks at Nissan Arena on August 23, 2024.
Proudly presented by The Star Brisbane, this pre-season game will give Brisbane fans their first opportunity to see the 2024/25 Bullets roster on court together against a highly regarded opposition.
The Shanghai Sharks have a rich history competing in the Chinese Basketball Association, and feature top tier talent including international representatives Wang Zhelin, Xie Liyongwei and Zheng Liu.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Shanghai Sharks to Brisbane for this exciting pre-season clash,” Brisbane Bullets CEO Malcolm Watts said.
“Queensland's long standing Sister State relationship with the Municipality of Shanghai adds an extra layer of significance to this event, highlighting the cultural and sporting connections between our regions.”
“We look forward to welcoming Bullets fans back to Nissan Arena one last time and starting our pre-season off with a bang.”
Daniel Finch, CEO of The Star Brisbane said The Star was incredibly excited to partner with the Brisbane Bullets for this pre-season game against the Shanghai Sharks.
"It's a fantastic opportunity to enjoy top-level basketball and celebrate the strong cultural and sporting ties between Queensland and Shanghai,” Mr Finch said.
This event is even more special as it coincides with the opening of our $3.6 billion The Star and Queen's Wharf Brisbane’s integrated resort from August 29, where we'll welcome visitors from around the globe to Brisbane."
This pre-season game exemplifies the growing relationship between the NBL and basketball in Asia.
“We have a fantastic relationship with the international basketball community, including the CBA, and those connections are important to the NBL’s continued growth,” NBL COO and Head of Basketball Operations Vince Crivelli said.
“The partnership between our two leagues continues to go from strength to strength, and this preseason game is a brilliant step forward towards growing basketball in Australia and Asia.
“I want to thank the Shanghai Sharks, Brisbane Bullets and CBA for supporting this game and we look forward to enjoying what promises to be a fascinating contest in August.”
Shanghai Sharks representative James Duncan expressed the Club’s excitement about their upcoming visit to Australia to play a friendly match against the Brisbane Bullets.
“It's a great opportunity to learn by competing against some of the best teams in the Australian NBL. As basketball's global influence continues to grow, we hope that this visit will allow us to learn from each other in an international context, interact with the Bullets team, exchange ideas, enhance practices, and establish a bridge of friendly exchange between the CBA and NBL,” Duncan added.
