The Brisbane Bullets welcome today’s announcement by the NBL to start the 2020-21 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season in early 2021.
Brisbane Bullets CEO Peter McLennan said: “We have been working closely with the league over the past few months on planning for the forthcoming season.
“Our number one priority has always been the health and welfare of our players, staff and fans. Like the NBL, we want to play in front of as many of our fans as possible and delaying the start of the season until at least mid- January gives us the best chance to do that.
“We will continue to communicate with our members and fans about the plans for the season as they come to light. We thank them for their ongoing patience and support during what has been a challenging period for everyone and we’ll continue to build towards what will be a great season for the Bullets.
“I also want to thank our corporate partners for the support and commitment they’ve shown to the club this year and we look forward to sharing more positive announcements regarding new corporate partners soon.
“I’m really proud of the way everyone has worked together not just as a club, but everyone associated with the game. While there is no question it has been a challenging time, the future of the Bullets is bright and I’m excited about the years ahead.”
Brisbane Bullets Coach Andrej Lemanis said:
“The beauty of sport is that it prepares you to be fluid – each time you come in to a game, there are so many variables you can’t control and so you have to be adept at reading the circumstances in front of you and making the appropriate changes.”
“Like everyone involved in the sport, we want a season that is safe and successful for all involved – fans, clubs, players, administrators, everybody. This move helps to achieve that and we look forward to continuing to work together as a team to be ready to go at the beginning of the new season. We’re fortunate to have nine rostered players in Brisbane and circumstances that allow us to practice – so we have plenty of time now to build both fundamental individual and team concepts. Importantly though, we also have the time to get to know each other as a team and build trust in our relationships, which is key to success.”
“The players have been great throughout this disrupted period and I’m thankful to all of them for the attitude and approach they have taken. Everyone is keen and eager to play – the love for basketball is evident in the group and I look forward to seeing it translate in to a team the Brisbane public will be proud to support.”
