Holt named in Boomers squad

Brisbane Bullets young gun Jacob Holt has been called up the Australia squad, leaving him poised for his first taste of international basketball.

The forward - who qualifies as a local for the Bullets through his Australian-born mother - is in a 12-man team for upcoming away fixtures versus Guam & Philippines in the second window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers.

It follows an impressive rookie season in the NBL, over the course of which he has played 21 games after overcoming a hip injury. His run has included tallies of 17, 24, and 25 points against Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide respectively.

His athleticism and physicality in the paint came at an important time for Brisbane with mainstay Tyrell Harrison sidelined with concussion.

He joins three other debutants representing the green & gold for the first time at senior level alongside Melbourne pair Tanner Krebs, Tom Wilson and Taipan, Kody Stattman.

Elsewhere Nick Kay and Jack White will provide a consistent base for Australia’s men with familiar firepower across the roster. Shooter Reyne Smith will suit up and Elijah Pepper returns alongside Wildcats teammate David Okwera.

Key veterans have been selected with Sam Froling and Mitch Creek back in for national team duties.

Australia will face Guam at the University of Guam on 26 February before travelling to Manila to face the Philippines on 1 March.
