The Brisbane Bullets game on Saturday will carry a lot of extra meaning, with point guard Jason Cadee set to play his 350th NBL game.
Cadee started his career with the Gold Coast Blaze in 2009, however a severe car crash just months after signing his first professional contract, threatened to derail his career before it had started.
“I almost didn't get to play any games. So, fast forward to this, it makes it all a little bit more special,” Cadee said about playing his 350th game.
Following his time at the Blaze, he has had stints with the Adelaide 36ers, Sydney Kings and has now settled at the Bullets and is approaching game 350.
With hard work and determination, Cadee has put together one of the most consistent careers of any player in the NBL and leads all active players in consecutive games played at 256, not missing a single game since 2014. He has also notched over 3000 points and 1000 assists in his NBL career.
A knockdown shooter and elite distributor, Cadee’s all-round game and leadership has continued to grow year on year. What he’s doing this season with the Bullets has been outstanding, averaging 13.3 points, 4.2 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game in NBL23.
A consummate professional, the words his teammates use to describe him cannot be understated.
Nathan Sobey who has played much of his career with Cadee used the word “selflessness” to describe Jason’s game in one word.
“He’s the best teammate I’ve played with. Love playing with him and being around him both on and off the court,” Sobey said.
“He’s a great person to have around the Club. He really does what he can for everyone else and puts himself next in line after that.”
When asked about what Jason was like as a teammate, Tanner Krebs said, “The first thing that comes to mind is his leadership. He’s been a leader in this league for a long time and that’s just a huge testament to his character.”
“Playing with Jase is just a great time and a lot of fun. He has a great understanding of how the game is played and he’s super intelligent,” Krebs added.
Aron Baynes is looking forward to sharing this milestone with his teammate.
“It’s awesome to be on the court with Jason and share this moment with him,” Baynes said.
“It’s a credit to his longevity and a credit to what he brings to teams year in, year out and we’ve seen it early on in the season as well.”
“He gets out there and does what’s needed for the team,” Baynes added.
Jason grew up around the sport, with his Mum (Debbie) and Dad (Robbie) key figures in the basketball community, having both represented Australia at Olympic games.
When Jason was a kid, Robbie was also the CEO of former NBL Club the West Sydney Razorbacks, so he spent much of his childhood around around the sport. “Ever since I can remember I’ve been around the NBL,” Cadee said.
“Being around that from a young age… all I wanted to do was play in the NBL.”
“It’s kind of surreal to say that I’m playing 350 games. When I really think about it, it’s pretty cool.”
Be sure to watch Cadee hit his milestone when the Bullets face the JackJumpers in Tasmania this Saturday on ESPN, via Foxtel and Kayo Sports.
