NBL23: Round 15 vs Sydney Kings at Nissan Arena

The Brisbane Bullets are gearing up for a huge Round 15 which includes three games, including two at home and one on the road. First up they take on Sydney Kings on Wednesday night at Nissan Arena. The game will provide a great test for the Bullets against the league leading Kings who have won their last four in a row.

The last time these two teams matched up was back on October 16 in front of a sold out Nissan Arena.The Kings came out in top in Round 3. DJ Mitchell had a breakout performance for the Bullets in that game, scoring 20 points, while Justin Simon impressed for the Kings with a game high 23.

TYLER JOHNSON VS DERRICK WALTON JR

Tyler Johnson is coming off a season best performance by the numbers for the Bullets, after scoring 32 points, while adding 4 assists and 4 steals last time on court. Johnson’s output across the season for the Bullets has been highly efficient and great things happen when he attacks the rim to score or find open teammates. He average’s 15.1 ppg on 50.5% from the field and has only had one game this season where he hasn’t scored in double figures.

Like Johnson, Derrick Walton Jr has been consistently strong for the Kings, averaging 16.5ppg and 6.4 apg. Walton Jr has the ability to really turn it on, scoring 45 points in a double overtime encourter with SEM Phoenix last month. This will be an exciting match-up between the two scoring guards.

ON THE RECORD

After the Bullets last home game, Hostplus Head Coach Greg Vanderjagt wanted to see more fight  in his group.

“I think we need to see the competitiveness, that’s the first thing,” Vanderjagt said.

“We need everybody on the floor at practice leading into the game bringing that competitive energy. We need an intent about us that’s representative of a professional basketball team, and representative of this organisation.

“We’ve got a choice right now as professionals and as men, we can either shut up shop and mail it in for the next eight games, and it could be a really long and miserable four weeks.

“Or we can compete and play for each other, and bring the right intent as pros and concentrate on the things that impact winning, and not getting caught up in what’s going wrong for me.

“In terms of that, we’re going to keep practicing, we’re going to keep coaching and trying to get better. We’re not going to shift away from doing the work, we’re going to try to keep getting better and preparing to play a basketball game that’s representative of professional basketballers.”
