Brisbane Bullets Host Perth Wildcats in Wednesday Night Ignite Cup Clash
The Brisbane Bullets return to Nissan Arena on Wednesday night to host the Perth Wildcats in an Ignite Cup by 7-Eleven matchup, looking to build on their impressive seven-point win over the Adelaide 36ers on Sunday.
The victory in Adelaide lifted the Bullets to a 5-5 record after they had fallen to the Cairns Taipans at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre last Thursday. Brisbane produced a strong performance despite missing Jacob Holt, Sam McDaniel, Arnas Velička, Max Mackinnon and Lat Mayen.
Wednesday's game continues the Bullets' push to take NBL basketball to different parts of Brisbane, following games at Pat Rafter Arena and the Brisbane Entertainment Centre earlier this season.
It will also be the Bullets' first game at Nissan Arena since they played their final home game there at the end of the 2023/24 season. Their last appearance at the venue was a memorable one, with a sold-out crowd of 4,987 watching Brisbane defeat Adelaide 102-84 on February 9, 2024.
The Wildcats arrive with a 5-4 record, although eight of their first nine games have been played at RAC Arena. Perth has also lost its past three games against Melbourne United, the Sydney Kings and Illawarra Hawks.
Wednesday will be a milestone night for Wildcats captain Jesse Wagstaff, who will make his 550th appearance for the club and is already its games record holder.
Bullets coach Will Weaver is embracing the challenge of a condensed schedule, with Brisbane playing Adelaide on Sunday, Perth on Wednesday and Melbourne United on Saturday.
Having spent extensive time working in the G League and NBA, where short turnarounds are commonplace, Weaver believes his team needs to adapt quickly to each opponent.
"Me and Raul were laughing at our short little practice with a bunch of injured players that we had in Brisbane before we came down here (to Adelaide) of like, isn't this so much like our old NBA life?" Weaver said.
"Where, all right, nice to meet you, you're starting at the three and you're gonna be in this coverage when that happens and you're going to be guarding this dude except for when you're guarding this dude.
"We've got a really high percentage of our guys right now that are thriving and embracing the variability you have to have if you're going to play these guys tonight, Perth on Wednesday and Melbourne United on Saturday.
"You can't think you're going to walk into each of these games and apply the same tool to the different job."
Wednesday's clash will be the first meeting between the teams this season. They met four times in NBL26, including a memorable 110-93 Bullets win in Perth on October 15.
Tyrell Harrison starred in that victory with 27 points, 15 rebounds and three assists, while Taine Murray added 12 points. Brisbane also secured the win without Mitch Norton, Holt and McDaniel.
The Bullets face another quick turnaround after Wednesday's game, travelling to Melbourne to take on United on Saturday before a Round 9 double-header against New Zealand on Friday and the Tasmania JackJumpers at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Sunday, November 15.
