The Brisbane Bullets are calling on fans to help make Christmas a little brighter when the annual Teddy Toss returns on Monday 22 December at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, as the Bullets take on the New Zealand Breakers with 6.30pm AEST tip off.
Fans are encouraged to bring a new, soft plush teddy bear to the game and throw it onto the court at half time, with all teddies donated to The Salvation Army to support children and families doing it tough this Christmas.
The simple gift of a teddy bear can make a powerful difference. For families facing hardship, it can bring comfort to a child experiencing trauma or uncertainty, help create a magical Christmas morning for those who cannot afford presents, and support Salvation Army family-based programs that assist parents and children year round.
The Salvation Army has delivered a sobering snapshot of the festive season, with new research revealing 21 per cent of Australians are concerned their children will miss out on presents this Christmas, more than one in 10 worried their kids will miss out on food, and 1.1 million people will avoid speaking to their children about Christmas altogether because they cannot afford it.
“Christmas is a wonderful time of year for so many, but for some, it can be extremely difficult and stressful,” said Rendle Williams from The Salvation Army.
“Our research reflects this, with everyday Aussies having to choose between medication, utilities, food or having a special Christmas for themselves and their children. This breaks our heart, but also reminds us of the incredible privilege it is as The Salvation Army to support and stand alongside those doing it tough during the festive season.”
The Teddy Toss has become one of the most heart-warming nights on the Bullets calendar, combining high-energy NBL action with a cause that truly matters. Fans attending are asked to ensure teddies are new, soft plush toys to ensure they can be safely donated and distributed.
Tickets are on sale now, with fans encouraged to arrive early, bring a teddy, and help the Bullets and The Salvation Army deliver smiles this Christmas.
