The Brisbane Bullets can today confirm that American import Vic Law has been ruled out of the remainder of the Brisbane Bullets season due to an ankle injury.
The 25-year-old has missed the past three games through injury and after further testing and consultation with specialists, it has been discovered that he has a torn tendon in his ankle and will require surgery.
General Manager of Basketball Sam Mackinnon expressed the club’s disappointment at hearing the news.
“We all know how important Vic is to our basketball team so it is disappointing to know that we won’t see him on court again this season,” he said.
“Our medical team worked closely with Vic and explored all options before making this decision but ultimately the right call was to opt for an operation.”
Head Coach Andrej Lemanis knows how important Law is to his squad but has every confidence in the group moving forward.
“I’m disappointed for Vic at the news that he will need surgery to repair the damage to his ankle,” he said.
“It is positive that Vic is choosing to have the surgery and the early part of his rehab here with us – this is a great endorsement of our medical team and I’m pleased that, as a club, we will be able to support him as he begins his recovery process.
“Vic is a great person and teammate, finding ways to contribute to the group in a positive way even whilst injured. He has been fully engaged with the team and his joy for the group in last night’s win was genuine and wonderful to see. I’m glad he will continue to be around us and us around him.
“I have said many times that being fluid and adapting to change is a natural part of sport (and life, frankly). It’s a continual process of improvement and evolution and we all look forward to the journey ahead.
“We have a wonderful, talented group of people committed to this team and to team success – it’s been a long time since I’ve felt this connected with a group. That gives us a chance to do some special things this season and grind through the inevitable highs and lows that lay ahead.
“Finally, we all wish Vic a successful surgery and a smooth recovery process. I look forward to seeing him back on court and, hopefully, back in a Bullets uniform next season.”
After a strong showing in Wollongong last night, the team is in a good position with a recruitment process currently underway to find a suitable replacement to take Law’s position in the squad.
