THE Brisbane Bullets are pleased to announce the appointment of Will Weaver as President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach.
Weaver brings experience across the NBA, NBL, European and international basketball, including a prolonged spell as Assistant Coach of the Australia men’s national team.
He helped guide the Boomers to the 2014 FIBA World Cup, 2016 Rio Olympics and 2019 World Cup and served as Head Coach during Asia Cup qualifications in 2020.
He was named NBA G League Coach of the Year while leading the Long Island Nets to the league’s best record and the Championship Series.
He repeated that feat the following season, winning the NBL20 regular season championship with the Sydney Kings and taking them to the Championship Series.
Weaver later served as Head Coach of Paris Basketball and has held assistant coaching roles with the Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets, and Brooklyn Nets.
He currently serves as a Coaching Innovation Consultant for the Charlotte Hornets.
“I love Australia and the opportunity to return and build something special in Brisbaneis incredibly exciting for my family and me,” Weaver said.
“The Bullets have a strong foundation: passionate supporters, committed ownership, and a great city to call home.
“My focus now is building a basketball program that reflects that support and can competeat the highest level.
“The goal is to build a program that makes the city proud.”
In 128 professional games as head coach across three different leagues, Weaver currently boasts an 80-48 record.
Bullets CEO Malcolm Watts believes that breadth of experience and success across multiple high-level basketball environments made him the ideal candidate.
"Willhas all the attributes of a great coach and his resume attests to that,” Watts said.
“As a person, he is extremely detail-oriented, highly intelligent and a greatcommunicator.
“He has led teams who have established a winning identity and, crucially, he has an aptitude for driving standards off-the-court, which go hand in hand with his tactical ability.
“We know that when we pull together as a club and a city we have the potential to do something special and we are excited to begin this next chapter with him.”
Bullets majority owner and chairman Jason Levien echoed those sentiments, praising Weaver's vision for the organisation.
“Over the course of his career and during this process, Will has been deeply impressive,”he said.
“He has a clear vision for how he can build a lasting culture of excellence andbring success to the Bullets on and off the court.
“We are fully behind him as we put the building blocks in place for NBL27 and beyond and we are thrilled to partner with him in this journey.”
Updates regarding Weaver’s basketball staff and roster build will be announced in due course.
