White enjoys how Bullets celebrate each other's success

There's much more to Isaac White now than just a player who loves to shoot and score, which is why he is happy to see all of his teammates available play such a key role in a memorable win in Adelaide for the Brisbane Bullets.

White played a key role in the win back in his hometown to finish with 13 points, four assists and two steals while knocking down 3/5 of his three-point attempts.

While it's always nice to play well on an NBL floor, what White cares much more about 138 games into his career now is being part of wins and beyond that, being part of a group who want the team to thrive, each other to succeed and then to celebrate what every teammate is doing.

That was never more evident than Friday night in Adelaide where the Bullets defied the odds to score the memorable victory while missing a handful of key players, and coming up against a team in hot form on their home floor in front of a sold out crowd.

What the Bullets produced was a tremendous all-round team performance for 40 minutes. That's why White was so happy for every member of the team to get to savour such a victory.

"I'm just so happy for the team to get this win. We keep our season alive but it was something that me and Norto were talking about before the game and it was way bigger than any personal accolades," White said.

"It was all about having a feel good win because that's why we're playing basketball. I'm just so happy for Norto, Keandre, Casey and all the guys have been grinding away with a withered line-up. We just get to really enjoy this win as a group and that's in the forefront of my mind right now."

Even when the injuries have continued to mount throughout the season and as a result wins have been tough to come by in recent weeks, at no point has the morale within the Bullets team not remained high.

A big part of that is because of how strong their connection is with one another, the fact they all want the best for the team and to see each other succeed within that system.

Celebrating each other's successes has been a big focus. That's what White was so pleased about with the win on Adelaid back on Friday night.

"A special part about our group is that we do keep the morale super high," he said.

"Through these tougher stretches and losses and all the rest of it, we do keep coming in every day and enjoy each other's company.

"So at a base line, it's always at a pretty good standard but the feeling in that locker room when we walked off the floor and sung our song, I'm not gonna lie, it was top two this year for sure with how excited the group was.

"One of the keys Norto talked about with the group was enjoying each other's success and I know I'm not thinking about myself right now and I'm sure nobody else is.

"There's something that each other did throughout the game that is in each other's mind and we're so happy for each other to go and get that feel good win. That's what basketball's all about."

While White has been pleased with his shooting touch getting back to what he usually produces this season with his three-point shooting up to 41.2 per cent after he went at just 20.9 last season, it's more than that which he's now taking pride in.

After proving himself an outstanding leader in the off-season to captain the Mackay Meteors to the NBL1 North championship, White is bringing that leadership to the Bullets as well while continuing to focus on improving at the defensive end.

"My focus is pretty much always on the defensive end to be honest. Being around someone like Norto and just the way he can affect the game, that's at the forefront of my mind to become more of a two-way guy and that's a stride I can continue to take," White said.

"And on the back of last year when I didn’t shoot the ball well, this year has been big for me just trusting my work. I work as hard as anyone so I have to back myself to take shots in big moments.

"Early on I was hesitating, so it's more a confidence and decision-making thing on the offensive end to back in my work.

"But I'm still challenging myself on the defensive end and there was a few possessions there where Norto went out of the game, and I got to guard Kendric and I was kinda licking my lips for it to be honest.

"I wanted that challenge and I did OK, not as good as Norto, but I did OK so I want to continue to push myself on that end."
