The Brisbane Bullets are thrilled to announce the signing of NBA veteran Tyler Johnson for the upcoming NBL23 season on a one-year deal.
Since beginning his NBA career in 2015, the 30-year-old American has played over 350 games in the League. The former Fresno State standout played his first five seasons with the Miami Heat and had stints with Phoenix, Brooklyn, San Antonio and Philadelphia.
Johnson and Bullets teammate, Aron Baynes have already played together. The duo has had demonstrable NBA success as teammates at the Phoenix Suns in the 2019/20 season.
With an NBA career high of 32 points and multiple playoff appearances, the 6-foot-3 guard will add additional scoring power to the Bullets back court and is a highly skilled playmaker.
Bullets General Manager of Basketball, Sam Mackinnon said the club was excited to secure the signature of the experienced guard.
“We identified recruiting an American guard and to be able to sign someone of Tyler Johnson’s ability and pedigree ticks the box of our recruiting brief.
“Adding Tyler to our back court of Sobey and Cadee gives us great flexibility and we add another playmaker. He can shoot the ball exceptionally well, creates for his teammates and many people have spoken about what a quality human being he is.”
Hostplus Head Coach James Duncan is excited to welcome a player of Tyler’s calibre to the Bullets.
“Another exciting pick-up with Tyler coming on board. He brings so much to the table and his shooting, court vision and versatility will help our team tremendously. He has good instincts defensively and wants to compete.”
“I want to get out there and hoop was his message to me, so we’re all really looking forward to his arrival.”
Tyler highlighted the fact that he is ready to “come in and compete for a top spot in the league.”
“After having a great conversation with JD and Sam, I was excited about the direction they are taking this team,” Johnson said.
“I have heard so many good things about the NBL and want to be a part of growing this league.”
Tyler Johnson joins Aron Baynes, Nathan Sobey, Jason Cadee, Tyrell Harrison, Tanner Krebs, DJ Mitchell, Harry Froling, Kody Stattmann, Gorjok Gak and development player Lual Diing on the Brisbane Bullets 2022/23 roster.
