The Brisbane Bullets have secured American guard Dakota Mathias, who joins the club as the team’s newest import, replacing Javon Freeman-Liberty.
A sharpshooter with NBA and international experience, Mathias is known for his poise, perimeter accuracy and team-first mentality.
His ability to create shots off the dribble, find teammates, and space the floor is expected to bring a new dimension to the Bullets’ offensive schemes, while his defensive discipline will help solidify the team’s backcourt rotations.
Renowned for his smooth shooting stroke, the 29-year-old is expected to make an immediate impact as the team looks to strengthen its offensive depth heading into the heart of the NBL season.
Head Coach Stu Lash said Mathias’ signing fills a key need in the Bullets roster and adds both shooting and leadership to the squad.
“Dakota is a high-IQ player who can stretch the floor and make everyone around him better,” Lash said.
“He’s a tough competitor and a proven ability to score under pressure.
“He brings composure, maturity, and a genuine understanding of how to win games at a high level. I think our fans are really going to enjoy the way he plays.”
A product of Purdue University, Mathias finished his collegiate career as the Boilermakers’ all-time leader in games played and three-pointers made, shooting an impressive 41.9% from long range.
Following college, Mathias earned opportunities with multiple NBA organisations including the Philadelphia 76ers and Memphis Grizzlies, played internationally in Spain and Germany, and competed in the NBA G League with the Texas Legends and Indiana Mad Ants.
With Indiana, he was a consistent scoring force, registering double figures in 38 of 45 games and posting 20 or more points 22 times, including two 30-point performances.
Mathias said he is eager to contribute to Brisbane’s ambitions and connect with the Bullets fan base.
“I’ve heard great things about the Bullets, the fans, and the culture around the team,” Mathias said.
“My focus is on coming in, playing hard, defending, and helping us win games.
“I pride myself on being a consistent player who competes every possession. I can’t wait to get to work and represent Brisbane,” he said.
The arrival of Mathias complements the team’s core of local talent and provides another reliable scoring option capable of delivering in big moments.
