Bullets add experienced guard Mitch Norton

The Brisbane Bullets are thrilled to announce the signing of point guard Mitch Norton on a two-year deal.

Norton is a Queensland junior and began his NBL career with the Townsville Crocs. He spent a couple of years in Illawarra before joining the Perth Wildcats, where he played the past five seasons. He was a vital member of the 2018/19 and 2019/20 Championship winning Wildcats sides.

Across 12 seasons in the NBL, Norton has averaged 7.2 points, 2.7 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game and has asserted himself as a tough lockdown defender, having been a finalist for the NBL’s Best Defensive player award previously.

He has a wealth of experience both in the NBL and internationally, having represented Australia on multiple occasions including winning gold in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Hostplus Head Coach Justin Schueller is excited to welcome a player and person of Norton’s calibre to the Bullets roster.

“From the moment we started our roster build we kept saying we needed a Mitch Norton type in that spot, so when he became available, we jumped at the opportunity,” Schueller said.

“He fits who we want to be perfectly. He’s hardworking, an elite defender and a great culture fit.

“One of the things that stood out to me when talking about joining us was his want to continue to get better and a thirst to win. These are things that we will be about, and he is going to play a big part in turning our Club around.

“Any time we can add a Queenslander to our roster is a huge positive as well.” Schueller added.

Norton is pumped to be heading back to the Sunshine State and joining the Brisbane Bullets.

“Stu, Justin and the coaching staff are putting together a super competitive roster and that was just one of the many reasons the Club was so attractive,” Norton said.

“I’ll bring Championship experience, hard nose defence, while helping tick the score board over. Baynes and Sobey draw a lot of attention, they make the right reads and create a lot of shots for everyone else. When the ball is moving through hands that’s a fun, exciting style of basketball”

Norton is looking forward to getting out on court and having the passionate Bullets fans behind him and the team.

“I can’t wait to play in front of the Brissy fans. It’s a fun, loud, hostile environment, only this time I’ll be one of the good guys.”

Mitch Norton joins Aron Baynes, Nathan Sobey, Tyrell Harrison, DJ Mitchell, Isaac White, Sam McDaniel and Josh Bannan on the Bullets NBL24 roster.
