JFL Returns to the Bullets

The Brisbane Bullets are thrilled to confirm the return of Javon Freeman-Liberty for the remainder of the NBL26 season, and he’s coming back with something to prove.

Freeman-Liberty previously spent the early stages of the season with Brisbane before stepping away from basketball to prioritise his mental health and wellbeing. In that time, he committed to personal growth and sought support.

The Brisbane Bullets continued to check in and ensure he had access to the resources he needed off the court.

The decision to re-sign Freeman-Liberty reflects both the Club’s support for him as a person and a clear belief in his outstanding talent.

The explosive 26-year-old guard has proven scoring power, playmaking creativity and the athleticism to be a game-changer at both ends of the floor.

Brisbane Bullets CEO Mal Watts said Freeman-Liberty returns with a renewed intensity that will make him dangerous on the floor.

“It was tough for Javon to open up to us about his wellbeing and I’m grateful he trusted our Club enough to do that and to seek the support he needed,” Watts said.

“What makes me most proud is that he chose Brisbane as the environment where he feels safe, supported and ready to thrive.

“Javon has put in a large amount of work over the past six weeks so he’s in a much stronger position to return.

“I truly believe we’re about to see Javon Freeman-Liberty at his best yet,” he said.

Freeman-Liberty reconnected with teammates in recent weeks, initiating conversations with players and staff and reaffirming his desire to contribute to the team in the right way.

Captain Mitch Norton said he and Javon had an honest conversation about how his exit affected the group and he’s pleased to see Javon in a better headspace now.

“Javon was really honest about what he went through and the steps he’s taken since leaving. That takes courage,” Norton said.

“We know how talented he is - he can score, defend, and bring a spark that shifts momentum.”

Freeman-Liberty arrives into a reshaped roster that has acted swiftly in recent days, including the signing of another elite import- which will be announced in the coming days.

Watts said resilience and unity will define the remainder of the season.

“This group has experienced setbacks, but they’ve stayed connected and hungry,” Watts said.

“We’ve acted quickly to reshape the roster and we’re still chasing every opportunity to climb.

“This season has been turbulent. Now it’s about getting to work and chasing wins.”

Freeman-Liberty is expected to join team training immediately and will be available for selection pending final clearances.
