Lash family all in on Brisbane move

Not only has Stu Lash committed to the move to Queensland as head coach of the Brisbane Bullets, but his wife and their two children are excited by packing up their Denver life and moving down under too.

Lash had a lot to consider when the opportunity came up - the first thing to consider was whether or not he felt he could successfully step into the role and secondly if he wanted to. Most importantly, though, was that there was no way he could do it if his family wasn’t also on board.

While Lash has spent the past two and-a-half seasons as the Senior Basketball Adviser with the Bullets, and while he has spent time in Brisbane, his family has remained based back at home in Denver.

The family came together and decided that if Stu was appointed head coach at the Bullets and had to live in Brisbane full-time as a result, that they would happily be fully on board and they would make the move to Queensland as a foursome.

Stu, his wife and their two children are now currently back home in Denver packing up their life ahead of their move to Brisbane next week where they will begin their new lives together.

"We're all in. We're all moving over in July as a family and we can't wait. I've been going back and forward over the last couple of years so I've never been based in Brisbane," Lash said.

"I would come out maybe two or three times a season for a week or so at a time, but my family did come over with me last December and January through Christmas and New Year.

"We went spent two weeks in Brisbane and they got exposed to everything, and absolutely loved it."

Having set up a nice life for themselves in Denver as a family over the past decade, it is a significant move for the Lash family to now throw everything into making the move to Brisbane and become fully part of the Bullets family.

While understandably there is a whole mix of emotions, excitement for the start of a new life is what Lash sees overriding amongst his family as they get ready to make the move.

"I have a beautiful wife and we have two children, a 13-year-old boy and 11-year-old daughter, and we'll all be moving out to Brisbane as a family," Lash said.

"We're all very excited about it but like any family who is doing their first move, there's also a mixture of excitement and nervousness and anxiety just because you are leaving the place you've always lived.

"That's all the normal sort of emotions for any family but our kids are at an age where they are certainly understanding of what we're doing although they're also not young adults yet.

"They are kinda right on that edge and it would be a little bit harder to move high school kids or if they are eight and five it might be even easier than now."

Having already spent plenty of time in Brisbane already, Lash already knows it's a city he would be more than happy to live in. But really, for the chance to be a head coach in a league as high-profile in the NBL, it's not something he'd easily turn down.

However, it's not as simple for his wife and their two children to move their lives in support of him. Having already enjoyed their time spent visiting Brisbane easily helps and the lifestyle that Australia offers means they are all looking forward to it.

"Even though the transition is a long way away, the positives are that everyone speaks English, we already have a built in community with the Bullets and it's not like we're going somewhere completely new.

"We'll get to settle in just before training camp starts so we'll have some time to get all settled as a family because once training camp starts, things are going to get pretty full on for me so I need to make sure my family are in a good place before I go and focus on that."
