What happened last game?
Prior to the FIBA break, the Bullets claimed their third win in a row when they defeated the JackJumpers 74-72 in Tasmania. After getting out to a strong start, the game became close in the second half, but the Bullets showed resilience and were able to hold off the fast finishing JackJumpers.
In their last outing, the Taipans took care of Melbourne United with ease, winning 97-72 in front of their home fans.
KEY MATCH UP
ARON BAYNES vs KEANU PINDER
Baynes and Pinder are big men with different styles of play, but both are dominant in their own right.
Baynes strength, presence in the paint makes and ability to stretch the floor makes him a tough guard for any centre/forward in the league. Averaging 12.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, including two of the last three games with 14 rebounds, Baynes will again look to assert his dominance inside.
Pinder’s explosiveness and athleticism can change the momentum of a game quickly. Averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds per game, he has been a big reason why Cairns have had such success early on in NBL23.
This will be an exciting battle to witness!
ON THE RECORD
Following his 350th NBL game Jason Cadee was proud of the resilience his team showed in the win over Tasmania especially in the second half.
“It’s probably the first time this year we’ve really shown some resilience in that last quarter. Just stuck at it defensively, made plays and kept fighting,” Cadee said.
“We’ve played the right way and we’re trying to do the right things…it’s starting to click a bit.”
“It probably took a bit longer then expected but Sobes is looking more like himself, Bangers is starting to get more wind, Tyler’s starting to find his rhythm.”
“You’ve just got to stick with it at times. If you can stick with it and start to string together wins like we have, you’re going to be thereabouts towards the end of the year. So far we’re in the dog fight and we’ve started to find some rhythm and we’ll see what we can do after this break.” Cadee added.
Hostplus Head Coach, James Duncan said, “It’s a grind, it’s not easy, but if you want to get to where this team wants to get to, then we’ve got to defend. That’s the bottom line.”
