Brisbane Bullets Host Perth Wildcats in Wednesday Night Ignite Cup Clash
The Brisbane Bullets make their return to Nissan Arena on Wednesday night to host the Perth Wildcats in an Ignite Cup by 7-Eleven match up and coming off a stirring win in Adelaide.
The Bullets produced a tremendous performance on Sunday in Adelaide to beat the 36ers by seven points and now will look to keep that momentum going against the visiting Wildcats on Wednesday night.
The game will be played at Nissan Arena with the Bullets continuing to bring NBL basketball to different areas of Brisbane having already hosted matches at Pat Rafter Arena and the Brisbane Entertainment Centre so far this season.
That will make it the first game played at Nissan Arena since the Bullets called it their home base up until the end of the 2023/24 season.
The last game the Bullets played at Nissan Arena was a memorable one too with a sold out crowd of 4987 there to watch the 102-84 win against the Adelaide 36ers on February 9, 2024.
The Bullets lost to the Cairns Taipans at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre last Thursday night, but hit back impressively to beat the 36ers in Adelaide on Sunday despite the absence of Jacob Holt, Sam McDaniel, Arnas Velička, Max Mackinnon and Lat Mayen.
There was plenty to like in the effort of Brisbane as they improved their season to a 5-5 record and now they will look to keep that momentum going against the Wildcats on Wednesday night.
Perth come to Nissan Arena with a 5-4 record themselves but eight of those first nine matches have been at home for them at RAC Arena while they have now lost their past three – to Melbourne United, the Sydney Kings and Illawarra Hawks.
Wildcats captain Jesse Wagstaff is already the games record holder of his club and will be celebrating his 550th appearance as well on Wednesday night against the Bullets.
Having worked in the G League and NBA extensively where short turnarounds are a regular occurrence, Bullets coach Will Weaver likes the challenge of the Bullets having to have quick breaks between games having played from last Thursday to Sunday, now to Wednesday and then again to Saturday night in Melbourne.
"Me and Raul were laughing at our short little practice with a bunch of injured players that we had in Brisbane before we came down here (to Adelaide) of like, isn't this so much like our old NBA life?" Weaver said.
"Where, all right, nice to meet you, you're starting at the three and you're gonna be in this coverage when that happens and you're going to be guarding this dude except for when you're guarding this dude.
"We've got a really high percentage of our guys right now that are thriving and embracing the variability you have to have if you're going to play these guys tonight, Perth on Wednesday and Melbourne United on Saturday.
"You can't think you're going to walk into each of these games and apply the same tool to the different job."
Wednesday night's game is the first time the two teams have met this season and going back to NBL26, they met four times and that included a memorable win out west for the Bullets 110-93 back on October 15.
On that occasion, Tyrell Harrison had a huge performance with 27 points, 15 rebounds and three assists while Taine Murray scored 12 points, and it was a memorable win in the absence of Mitch Norton, Jacob Holt and Sam McDaniel.
Following Wednesday night's game, the Bullets have another swift turnaround before taking on Melbourne United on the road on Saturday ahead of a Round 9 double too away to New Zealand on Friday and at home to the Tasmania JackJumpers on Sunday November 15 back at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
