Global basketball icon and entrepreneur Angel Reese has invested in Brisbane's effort to bring a WNBL franchise to the city by joining the bid for the league’s 10th license.
She joins a prospective ownership group spearheaded by experienced sports investor and Bullets owner Jason Levien, alongside fellow owner and Brisbane local Ben Haan.
The announcement follows Reese’s recent visit to Australia with Reebok to unveil new colorways of her signature Angel Reese 1 basketball shoe and announce the brand’s official footwear partnership with the WNBL for the 2027 season.
The two-time WNBA All-Star’s investment marks her next step in championing women’s sports, following her joining the ownership group of the United Soccer League DC Power FC in 2024 and the ownership group of the fastest growing women’s sports brand TOGETHXR in 2025, among other ventures.
Reese is a fierce advocate for gender equality in sports, challenging the double standards women face.
In 2023 she founded the Angel C. Reese Foundation, her philanthropic organization dedicated to empowering girls and women through sports, education, financial literacy, and more.
Her involvement with the Brisbane Bullets - which does not include any stake in the existing NBL team - continues her legacy of pushing for the growth of women’s sports globally and reinforces her desire to inspire the next generation of female athletes.
Brisbane Bullets CEO Malcolm Watts believes Reese’s involvement can inspire more people across South East Queensland to engage with the sport.
“Angel is a fantastic ambassador for basketball and a globally recognized superstar,” he said.
“She has proven there is no ceiling for female athletes, and that is a powerful message for kids picking up a basketball in Brisbane.
“Basketball is Queensland’s fastest growing sport, and having Angel involved as we pursue a WNBL team is a huge asset.”
