The Brisbane Bullets are excited to announce one of Australia’s premier regional education institutions, Toowoomba Grammar School has joined the Bullets family as the second partner school for 2021.
Founded in 1875, Toowoomba Grammar boasts a rich tradition of excellence, delivering high quality education and care for students while providing opportunities for growth and development for young men. The Brisbane Bullets are Queensland’s oldest professional sporting franchise with a rich history dating back to 1979. The partnering of two of Queensland’s longest standing institutions is a recipe for success and will pave the way for the next generation of regional athletes to enjoy success in sport and in life.
The emergence of Toowoomba Grammar School as a Basketball powerhouse in the GPS competition has been evident over the past two seasons with their program going from strength to strength under the leadership of Kabe Cicolini, Director of Basketball and the development of the state-of-the-art facilities in the TGS Glen McCracken Sports Centre. The investment in an holistic athlete development model and pathway resounds perfectly with the Brisbane Bullets’ investment in the South East Queensland Community providing opportunities for inclusion, development and engagement with elite athletes and coaches as a part of the Bullets’ partner school program.
Brisbane Bullets Host Plus Assistant Coach and Head of Development, Greg Vanderjagt said: “The growth of the Toowoomba Grammar School Basketball program is evident and they are well on their way to becoming one of the powerhouse schools in Queensland. We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to partner with TGS to help support the continued development of the program which Kabe has already established. We feel we can add value to what has been built and provide additional growth and development opportunities for athletes and students at the School.
“We aim to engage and inspire the youth of Queensland and by linking with Toowoomba Grammar School this provides us a further opportunity to achieve these outcomes with regional students and athletes. Toowoomba has a long and proud history of producing high performing athletes who are tough and resilient, we look forward to supporting the next generation of athletes in achieving their sporting goals”.
Kabe Cicolini, Director of Basketball at Toowoomba Grammar School said: “I am incredibly excited to partner with the Brisbane Bullets and grow both the profile and participation in Basketball at the School. This will provide an elite performance pathway for TGS players, offering an insight and exposure into the behind-the-scenes processes of our nation's best and hopefully inspire them to lofty heights in their basketball journey.
“Basketball has undergone a huge growth phase in both numbers and results over the last few years and to be one of the first schools in the state to affiliate with the elite brand that is the Bullets can only continue this process.
“We have an amazingly passionate group of boys at TGS Basketball and we look forward to pairing their energy and enthusiasm with the opportunities provided by this partnership. TGS boys from Prep to 12 being able to rub shoulders with NBL players and coaches at regular intervals throughout the season will see heroes become coaches and many great memories formed.
“Partnering with the Brisbane Bullets is the perfect complement to our goal of creating an inclusive and engaging program, dovetailed with a wholistic athletic development model and a pathway for the future success for our TGS men.”
The Brisbane Bullets will have a presence at Toowoomba Grammar School this December with a number of school holiday camp activities planned which will kick start the relationship in providing opportunities for students and athletes to further their Basketball development.
