The Brisbane Bullets organisation mourn the loss of Corey ‘Homicide’ Williams and express their deepest condolences to the family and friends of one of the most beloved figures in the game.
Affectionately known as “Homicide”, Williams was a champion on the court winning the 2010 NBL MVP while playing for the Townsville Crocodiles. He played the game with immense passion, intensity, and joy and matched those incredible efforts off the court when he joined the NBL broadcast team as a commentator and analyst.
Brisbane Bullets Senior Basketball Advisor, Stu Lash, shared a poignant memory highlighting Corey’s vibrant personality and impact within the basketball community.
“In 2004 I was working for the Denver Nuggets and we held an open tryout for fans in the parking lot, for an opportunity to train with our team. Hundreds of people attended, and we decided to bring a few into the training facility to take a closer look,” Lash said.
“As I watched the fans I recall saying, ‘That dude isn’t a fan, that’s Corey Williams.’ I too was from NY area and knew of him well. Corey walked into our gym like he was a 10-year NBA veteran and instantly made a mark on everyone in the organization.”
“His passion and swagger for the game of basketball was one of one.”
“We mourn the loss of a legend and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”
