Brisbane Bullets have signed local talent Max Mackinnon as a Development Player for the upcoming NBL22 season.
The Brisbane junior has spent the past year developing his craft at Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence following a strong junior career. Earlier this year, Max was an integral member of the Queensland U/20’s side, that claimed gold at the Australian Championships, averaging 15.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3 assists per game.
Hostplus Head Coach, James Duncan said he looks forward to Max joining the Bullets squad for the upcoming NBL season.
“Max is a high IQ athlete and has the ability to impact the game at both ends of the floor. He is a disruptive defender, attacks the paint and finishes well at the rim.” Duncan said.
“His mind-set is to compete and he’s ready to get after it on the court and the gym. This will be a real asset and focus to our squad this season.”
Greg Vanderjagt, Hostplus Assistant Coach said,“It’s been a pleasure to watch and coach Max on his journey as a developing young athlete.”
“Max’s growth over the past 18 months has accelerated incredibly which is a testament to Max’s commitment to his own development and the fantastic support network he has had around him both at St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace and more recently at the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence.
“Max has a bright future as a professional athlete and we strongly feel we have a long term Brisbane Bullet coming to us as a development player this year.
“I know Max is going to continue his growth with us and be challenged everyday by the athletes around him at the professional level. It’s exciting to bring a player of Max’ stature and calibre home to Brisbane to help him realise his dreams and contribute to his development both on and off the floor”.
Mackinnon will join the team in preparation for NBL22 direct from the Centre of Excellence later in the month.
