The Brisbane Bullets are thrilled to announce the signing of American import Chris Smith to a two-year deal.
Smith is an elite scorer and is coming off an impressive couple of seasons in the B-League, Japan’s top tier league, where he played for the Shiba Jets alongside former Brisbane Bullet Vic Law.
The 6’4’ small forward was recently named in the 2022-23 B-League Best Five after averaging 17 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
Throughout the season, where the Jets finished runners up, Smith was extremely efficient offensively, averaging 51.6% from the field and 43.7% from three-point range.
Smith played college basketball with Utah State, averaging 15.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, while shooting 45% from beyond the arc across his senior season. Following his college career Chris has had great success playing internationally in Europe and most recently in Japan.
Brisbane Bullets Hostplus Head Coach Justin Schueller is excited to add a player of Smith’s calibre to the NBL24 roster.
“Chris has been on our radar for a long time, and is the perfect piece within our roster build,” Schueller said.
“We went into Summer League knowing we wanted to find an impact player on the wing. We met with a number of athletes, including Chris and we couldn’t move past his high-level scoring and efficiency in play.
“He is a winner and everywhere he has played he has been one of, if not the top performer in his teams and we believe he is exactly the piece we needed.”
Chris is thrilled to be a part of the Bullets team and to have the opportunity to play in Australia.
“I’ve heard nothing but great things about Australia from my teammates from last year who have played in the NBL,” Smith said.
“I’m looking forward to the competition and how great the atmosphere is with the fans over here every game.
“I’m a hard worker and someone who gives it their all every single game. I also pride myself on playing at an efficient level.”
Chris is also excited to experience the lifestyle here in Brisbane and is looking forward to “walking around the city and exploring the Australian culture.”
Chris joins Aron Baynes, Nathan Sobey, Tyrell Harrison, DJ Mitchell, Shannon Scott, Isaac White, Sam McDaniel, Josh Bannan, Mitch Norton and Rocco Zikarsky on the Bullets NBL24 roster.
