The Brisbane Bullets had the ultimate welcome home party with an impressive victory over the New Zealand Breakers in their first game at The Armoury in five weeks.
An impressive defensive performance saw the Bullets hold the visiting side to their lowest total for the season. Despite a fairly even first half, the Bullets were in full control in the second, allowing the Breakers a mere 28 points in the last 20 minutes.
The front court of Harry Froling, Matt Hodgson and Tyrell Harrison were impressive all round. They were extremely active on the offensive glass, creating multiple extra opportunities and making aggressive plays at the rim.
On a quieter night offensively from the Bullets two season leading scorers, the team can take a huge amount of confidence in the positive contributions right across the board.
Froling had a breakout performance in the Bullets jersey, with a season high of 20 points and added 4 rebounds. Showing his versatility, Harry dominated the paint and also provided some theatrics to delight the home crowd, with a trick shot buzzer beater to finish the first half.
Matt Hodgson continued his impressive form this season, filling up the stat sheet with a 16 point, 10 rebound showing at an efficient 77% from the field.
Anthony Drmic also added a big punch off the bench, with 16 points at 58%, in addition to a strong defensive performance.
Nathan Sobey rounded out the Brisbane players hitting double figures, and despite coming into the game under the weather was efficient on his way to 12 points and three assists.
Plenty had happened since the Bullets last played at home five weeks ago. Taking some really positive strides in the NBL Cup, the Bullets continued to chalk up wins and averaged 101.7 games in their last seven games all away from home. However, they leaked a few more points than desired.
The team banded together tonight and with defence a clear priority, the Bullets really locked the Breakers down forcing them out of their offence and winning majority of the 50-50 possessions.
They Bullets will look to continue their positive momentum when they take on the Breakers in a rematch next Saturday 27th March at Nissan Arena. Get your tickets here.
