The Hungry Jack’s National Basketball League (NBL) will head to Darwin in mid-September for the NBL Blitz.
The NBL has partnered with the Northern Territory Government and the Northern Territory Major Events Company to bring all 10 teams to Darwin, where 15 games will be played during the week-long preseason tournament. Not only will fans have the chance to watch the NBL’s biggest stars on the court, but players from all teams will engage with the local community through a range of activities and activations.
“We are absolutely delighted to be going to Darwin for the NBL Blitz,” Hungry Jack’s NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said.
“Darwin is a city filled with passionate sporting fans who are eager to engage and connect with a professional sporting league and they will get to do that during the NBL Blitz.
“Basketball is booming in the Northern Territory with strong participation numbers and the impressive performances of the Darwin Salties in their inaugural NBL1 North season.
“The NBL Blitz is the only time of the year where all 10 NBL teams converge on one location to prepare for the season. All clubs and players are looking forward to getting out and about in the community and connecting with our fans in the Northern Territory.
“After two years of disrupted NBL Blitz competitions, we are excited the tournament is returning to its original format as teams gear up for what is shaping to be another spectacular season.
“We thank the Government of the Northern Territory and Northern Territory Major Events Company for helping to bring the NBL Blitz to Darwin. It is always a great carnival of basketball that offers the public the opportunity to get up close to the action and see every one of our 10 teams in full flight ahead of the rest of the country.
“I’m sure the people of Darwin will agree with me that September can’t come soon enough.”
As part of the Blitz, a 3x3 Pro Hustle will also take place on the Darwin Waterfront.
Ticket details on the NBL Blitz will be announced soon, but the event will be easily accessible to all, with family ticket packages to be available.
“This is a huge win for the Territory, one that means Territorians will be able to watch some of the best basketballers in the country, live and right here at home,” Northern Territory Chief Minister, Natasha Fyles, said.
“This major international event will also boost visitor numbers to the Territory in the form of players, support crews and travelling fans, which is also great news for our tourism and hospitality sectors.”
“I am so proud that we have secured the NBL Blitz for the Territory - providing the chance for our local up-and-coming basketballers to meet their sporting heroes, right here in Darwin,” Northern Territory Minister for Major Events, Paul Kirby, said.
“We thank the NBL for choosing the Territory, opening the door to future opportunities as a result of a strengthened relationship with the Territory Government.”
“We’re excited the NBL Blitz is locked in for September in Darwin and it’s great that the Northern Territory will host all ten NBL teams for the first time. It’s a really positive sign that we are starting to get back to normality and the team can start building towards NBL23,” Brisbane Bullets CEO Peter McLennan said.
More information on the NBL Blitz will be announced soon including schedule, broadcast details and more.
