Sobey Excited by Balance of Squad

Experienced Guard Nathan Sobey has had plenty of time this pre-season to get to know his new squad members and is excited about what is to come this Hungry Jack’s NBL season.
The 30-year-old is entering his second season as a Bullet and having the longest pre-season of his career, he believes the stability across the entire Bullets squad is something that members and fans should get excited about.
“We’re more balanced in all areas,” Sobey said.
“Adding guys like (Anthony) Drmic and Harry (Froling) really helps. Harry offensively is someone who can really get it done and bring in Drmic who can shoot the lights out and play off the dribble as well is great.
Having Jase (Cadee) and then Tamuri (Wigness) who can get after it at both ends is also a positive. Tamuri is a player that is so unpredictable and I think it’ll be great for Bullets fans to see him play consistently.”
Both Bullets imports Vic Law and Orlando Johnson have only been in the country for a couple of weeks but Sobey has been impressed with both their effort and also the seamless transition they’ve made into a new environment.
“Vic is a super athlete. He gets after it on both sides of the ball. That’s what I’m excited about, someone who goes at the ball hard and competes at every opportunity.
“He’s a big part of us moving forward and I’m super excited to have him here.
“Orlando has only been here a couple of days but I’m excited to see what he has to offer us down the path as well.”
And off the back of so much change, where does that leave Sobey? Well the man himself is looking to build on his leadership amongst the squad.
“I want to continue to grow in that (leadership role). It’s a big one for me,” he added.
“My role will stay similar. I think this year we’ll move the ball around and that’s what will be most difficult for teams to do this year, is to guard up against us.
“I think that’ll be a huge plus for us this year.”
The Bullets season commences at Nissan Arena on Saturday 16 January. Secure your seats now to ensure you don’t miss any of the action.
