Brisbane Bullets coach Andrej Lemanis says his club’s youngsters gained important experience in this weekend’s preseason games against the Adelaide 36ers.
With a number of contracted players not playing, the Bullets fell to the 36ers 87-62 at Titanium Security Arena on Sunday afternoon, to follow a 93-75 loss on Friday night.
Despite the results, the likes of Callum Dalton, Blake Jones, Tyrell Harrison, Kian Dennis and Tanner Krebs all earned significant game time and will be better for the run says Lemanis.
“We were down on numbers in terms of contracted players who were playing for us, so it was a fantastic opportunity to see some of the younger guys play significant minutes and understand where they’re at in their development,” Lemanis said.
“It helps us understand how we can continue to help them but also for them to understand the level that they’re trying to go to in order to be consistent contributors at this level.
“It was really fun to see those young guys and I took a good kick out of that, working with the young kids and seeing them grow and improve.”
Lemanis added the Bullets were able to take a number of lessons from the weekend and it enables them to get back to Brisbane and continue to improve before the regular season, which is due to commence in mid-January.
“There is lots to take away from this weekend. That’s what the preseason is about. It gave us the opportunity to go and find out a little bit about yourself and the areas where you need to work on. It was good from that perspective to get those learnings,” Lemanis said.
“As a group, it’s the preseason, we will move on from here and continue to work in practice and hopefully get some more games soon. It’s fun to be playing and it’s good to be back playing.”
