The Brisbane Bullets are pleased to announce they have secured Chinese International, Chuanxing Liu - or "Big Liu" as he likes to be known - for the NBL22 season.

The Brisbane Bullets are pleased to announce they have secured Chinese International, Chuanxing Liu - or "Big Liu" as he likes to be known - for the NBL22 season.

Standing at a commanding 7’5, Liu will be the tallest player in league history. His offensive efficiency and ability to be a defensive deterrent in the paint will bring an extra dimension to the Bullets roster.

Liu has signed under the NBL’s Special Restricted Player provision allowing the Club, and the league, to continue to build on strong relationships within the FIBA Asian region.

Liu is a member of the Chinese national team, having played in this year’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament and Asia Cup Qualifying Tournament.

The 24-year-old most recently played in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) for the Qingdao Eagles, where he averaged 9.7ppg, 8.3rpg and 1.1 bpg, shooting 66% from the field during the season. As the Eagles starting Centre, his output increased to 17.5ppg and 13rpg and 2.5 bpg during the playoffs. He was also selected to play in the 2021 CBA All-Star Game.

Brisbane Bullets General Manager of Basketball, Sam Mackinnon expressed his enthusiasm in having Liu on board. “We are excited to have Big Liu as part of the Brisbane Bullets.

“Securing 7’5 Big Liu gives us a player like no other in the NBL and the ability to play a variety of different styles which we know will be difficult for other teams to play against.

“Having a player from the Chinese National program brings added depth to our squad and additionally opens up a whole new fan base for the Bullets as the NBL’s global audience continues to grow.”

Bullets Hostplus Head Coach James Duncan said: “With Liu’s size and length, comes additional rebounding and rim protection. He plays with finesse and finishes well around the basket.

“We look forward to Liu joining the team and welcome the versatility and depth he’ll add to our roster.”

Liu said: “I am extremely happy to join the Brisbane Bullets and have the chance to play in one of the highest level leagues in the world.

“I know this will be a challenge for me, but I will give it 100% effort starting with every practice and earn my chance to help the team win games.

“I know that I’m lacking many things in my game to play at a higher level and want to use this season and every practice to get better and ultimately be able to help my national team China win games in FIBA competition.”

Liu joins recent international signings Robert Franks and Tom Digbeu alongside Nathan Sobey, Lamar Patterson, Isaiah Moss, Jason Cadee, Anthony Drmic, Deng Deng, Jack Salt, Tyrell Harrison, Tanner Krebs, Tamuri Wigness and Development Player Taane Samuel on the Brisbane Bullets NBL22 roster.
