City of Moreton Bay and the Brisbane Bullets have today announced a partnership to the strengthen local engagement with the club as well as place Moreton Bay Central on the national stage.

Already renowned as a city for sporting excellence and events, in the lead up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games, City of Moreton Bay is poised for more of the action, especially as home to the Moreton Bay Central Indoor Sports Centre (MBISC).

City of Moreton Bay Mayor said he hoped that in the lead up to, and after 2032, Council and Brisbane Bullets would work together to activate and raise awareness of the Moreton Bay Central site.

“Although the team is known as the Brisbane Bullets, we don’t hold that against them!”

“We’ve been working closely with the Bullets over many years, and today I am delighted to see this initial short-term agreement open up even more conversations about our future together, alongside opportunities for local engagement in this rapidly growing sport.

“Excitingly, this will include the delivery of a Bullets to Bay School Engagement Program focusing on developing skills, fostering teamwork and promoting healthy lifestyles locally as well as open training sessions.

“We’re not content to just have one national sporting team in our midst with the Dolphins NRL team but are out there attracting teams from other national leagues, such as the Bullets.

“Not only does this support our local economy through more jobs, tourism and the like but it provides multiple opportunities for our own sporting talents, from junior players to the more elite levels.

“It’s early days but we are all excited about what the future could bring.”

Brisbane Bullets CEO Malcolm Watts said the partnership represents a major milestone in the club’s commitment to community connection.

“This partnership signals an important step in our vision to expand the Bullets footprint and strengthen our ties with the City of Moreton Bay,” said Brisbane Bullets CEO Malcolm Watts.

“Moreton Bay is one of Australia’s fastest-growing cities and a vital hub for sport and innovation. Working together, we’ll create lasting programs and pathways that benefit both basketball and the wider community.  We’re proud to stand alongside City of Moreton Bay as we look ahead to an exciting decade of growth leading into 2032.”

“This is all part of a reset and refocus on our prime site at Moreton Bay Central, as we continue to activate the area,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Moreton Bay Central at Petrie is a landmark site in the City. Alongside MBISC, the site is already home to UniSC’s Moreton Bay campus and has been earmarked for a new TAFE.”

Connected via rail, the old Petrie Paper Mill site has been reimagined by City of Moreton Bay and continues to attract interest across health, retail, commercial and residential developments and community infrastructure.
