The Brisbane Bullets delivered their most complete performance of NBL26 on Thursday and now will look to back it up at home on Saturday night against the Sydney Kings looking for consecutive victories for the first time.
The Bullets will complete their three-game home stand at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre this Saturday night when they play host to the Kings with the game getting underway at 7pm local time.
It's a big game in the context even early in the season for both teams as well with the Bullets now having improved to sixth position with a 4-6 record to be just ahead of the Kings who are 3-5.
The Bullets are fresh off a commanding win on Thursday night where they defeated the Cairns Taipans 113-85 in what was their best offensive performance of the season with 57 points in the opening half and another 56 in the second.
There was a lot to like in the performance all-round from the Bullets with them shooting 55 per cent as a team including hitting 13/33 from downtown and 18/22 at the foul line to go with pulling down 12 offensive rebounds, dishing out 21 assists and committing just eight turnovers.
It was the best four-quarter offensive and defensive performance of the season from the Bullets to win for the first time in NBL26 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
They now will be looking to back that up on Saturday night against the Kings with the chance to win consecutive matches for the first time this season as well having now won three of the previous five matches with some momentum building.
Seven Brisbane players were on the court for 19 or more minutes against the Snakes with all of them scoring at least eight points which included the debut of new import guard Dakota Mathias who got up 10 three-point attempts, hit three of them and had 11 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Saturday night will now be the first time for the Bullets to play the Kings this season, which means a first occasion for former league MVP Jaylen Adams to come up against his former team since joining Brisbane.
He produced a standout performance against Cairns with 20 points, seven assists and five rebounds with Bullets coach Stu Lash in no doubt he's primed for the occasion.
"I'm sure he's ready and he won't say much, but he's a competitor and he knows who's coming into town," Lash said.
"He and I spent a lot of time this week talking about the mindset that he needs to put himself in for a game and what we need from him on the defensive end, and I thought today that was really evident.
"It was probably his best game all season just from picking up the ball in the back court, and being active and aggressive. I had a feeling like he was going to have a really solid game tonight to build into Saturday night."
With the Kings having not played since blowing a 16-point fourth quarter lead on Sunday at home to the Tasmania JackJumpers, Lash knows how motivated they will be on arrival in Brisbane but he sees it as a real chance for a statement from the Bullets.
"It's the biggest game for us of the season at this point and we've put ourselves in a position where we're right in the middle of the ladder," Lash said.
"Sydney's had a tough start so they're going to come in with a real edge and urgency, there's no doubt, and they are one of the benchmark clubs in this league.
"To have them here at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Saturday night, we'll have a great crowd and we're really looking forward to that opportunity to compete."
